Just a little bit about the
Cylons:
The Cylons that are fighting and rebelling are
NOT the Classic Centurions or the Newer Centurions. The Version of Centurion that are fighting are more similar to the U-87 created by Graystone Industries, and are not Militarized. Most Centurions that have become self aware are more like workers and do not have built in weapons or anything of that nature.
The first reports of Cylon on Human attacks were with shovels, other hand tools and hand to hand combat, it was only when the Cylons took control over Caprican ship yards and Military Facilities that they started to became militarized. Using Rifles and Sub Machine guns and captured Civilian and Caprican Military ships to make strikes on Human targets.
The Cylons are currently using non nuclear weapons but have used captured nuclear devices from the hijacked Military ships, but do not have the ability to produce them. The Cylons have not developed Resurrection or the Humanoid models, and are limited to the Cylons that can be made self aware and the Cylons that they can produce from the captured ship yards.

Cylons Prepare for War: In preparation for war, the Cylons began infiltration of key military and industrial facilities on the Colony of Caprica. Indeed, the Cylon infiltration was so successful that they were able to commandeer several Colonial Naval ships, Marine munitions depots, and command and control bases. Alarming reports of communication drop-outs, jamming, and other suspicious activities filtered back to Naval and Marine Headquarters respectively. By the time any decisions had been made to investigate the discrepancies, the Cylons had already fired the opening salvo. The Colonial ship Brenik was lost after a boarding action by Cylon Centurions and over 500 Civilians are kidnapped by the Cylons. The ship was later used in the attack on the Leto orbital habitat in Caprican orbit.
The Brenik was used to infiltrate Caprican Airspace and was able to dock with the Leto habitat. After Docking with the habitat at 4:43pm on the 13th of July a nuclear device that was hidden on the Brenik was detonated, heralding the start of a devastating war that would last more than a decade. Over fifteen thousand people died when the Leto habitat was blown apart upon detonation. The debris from the destruction rained down over Caprica City and Delphi City over the following 12 hours Causing Millions of cubits in damage, killing fifty and injuring over one hundred and fifteen.
Cylon attacks on every location where the Cylons were Deployed began simultaneously. Cylon attacks were particularly savage on the Military outposts and Production factories. Both would provide the Cylons with the industrial facilities they required for creating weapons of war. Key industrial facilities in Caprica's Civilian sector were overrun within hours of the surprise attack until Caprican Marines managed to contain the Cylon advance. The first wave of Cylon "tinheads" caught Caprican defenses totally off guard. Cylon forces had taken more than a eighth of the Caprican Naval production facilities before Marine forces could even mount a controlled withdrawal back to the fortified positions around the Naval HQ compound. Civilian casualties numbered into the hundreds by the end of the first day. It was clear that the Cylons were not engaged in a war of conquest, they were fighting a war of annihilation.
Caprican Civilian and Military Leaders began meetings with the Leaders of the colonies of Scorpia, Picon, and Leonis to try and establish a Coalition of armed forces to fight and prevent the Cylon attacks on Caprica and possible advance to the other colonies. After a year of deliberation the Coalition is created and begins operations to stop the Cylon Rebellion.
The Coalition of the Colonies Pushes the Bulk of the Cylon Attacking force away from only a small percentage of the U-87 and Naval Production facilities. With the Majority of the Fighting being done on Caprica and its Industrial Centers, it is feared that if the Cylons amass weapons and Space flight the War can possibly spread to the other colonies.
In an effort to move the battle to space the Cylon Forces Launch all captured Caprican Naval Ships with the bulk of their Centurion forces from the U-87 factories on board, and begin to Hijack Civilian and supply ships with their small fleet of Captured Caprican Military ships. The Cylons, using captured industrial facilities on Caprica, quickly produced the first of their space combat vessels to challenge the Colonials for control of the skies. Evidently, the Cylons had reached the same conclusions as the Coalition Admiralty - the Cylons could never mount a truly effective war effort without being able to ship reinforcements and supplies to their front lines, shipments that the Colonial Navy was currently and very effectively choking. Cylon raiders, in an attempt to even the score challenged the Colonial Navy face to face, began attacking Colonial supply lines of materials and fuel.
Elsewhere, the Cylons resorted to terrorist-type attacks (
which rose suspicion as now the Cylons were using the Same tactics used by STO Terrorists and seemingly worshiping the same God) launched from hastily constructed hidden Cylon bases (Caves, Sewers, and hidden locations spread out across the Colony of Caprica), rather than pitched ground battles. "Uprisings" of Cylon forces were now reported on Virgon, Saggitaron, Libran, Aerilon, and Aquaria. Reports of suspicious explosions of Government and military assets on Caprica and the other Colonies flowed in. Government buildings on all worlds became virtual fortresses overnight as fortifications and security measures were instituted.
The Caprican Government, initially shell shocked by the events and the rapid pace of the Cylon attack, was quick to act. Prime Minister Yalann declared a state of emergency and martial law to be effective immediately on the Colony of Caprica and all off world facilities. A Decree ordered all remaining "uninfected" robotic units, regardless of make, destroyed and the parts recycled for raw materials to help the defense efforts. The Coalition of Colonies declared that the Twelve Colonies of Kobol were at a state of war with the Cylon Nation effective at 00:00 5th July 51 BU.
A Mandatory Draft is enacted on the Colonies of Caprica, Picon, Leonis, and Scorpia as a result of the Decoration of War, further adding to the heated political climate.
Funds are allocated from the Coalition of Colonies to build a new Super weapon to help destroy the Cylon threat, a Battlestar. Plans are draw up to build four New War ships to be used in the ever growing Cylon war. One for each of the Colonies involved with the Coalition will be built, and sent out to the battle front. Modifications to the Current Space Patrol ship, the Viper Mk I are being tested to find a more capable Fighter design.
So in a nutshell, we are at the very start of the Cylon war. So close to the start that the Colonials do not have Battlestars or MKII Vipers, and the Cylons only have a few primitive Raiders and are using Captured Caprican Military ships as well as hidden bases to control their Rebellion.
